Madden Media acquires industry leader Custom Marketing Group (CMG) to form largest cooperative marketing company in the United States for travel destinations
Tucson-based Madden Media, a leader in tourism marketing and publishing nationwide, has acquired Atlanta-based Custom Marketing Group (CMG), a leader in custom marketing programs for destinations. The combined organizations represent by far the largest cooperative marketing company in the United States focused on promoting travel to destinations.
"We are marrying the expertise and talents of two great companies, both respected nationally for successful destination marketing programs across the United States," said Kevin Madden, founder and CEO of Madden Media.
"I'm thrilled for both our organizations and our combined clients," said George Mackin, CEO of Custom Marketing Group. "I reached out to Kevin, realizing that merging with his organization would allow our programs and our people to grow more quickly together than separately. We have competed in some areas but, in general, our offerings and our client base are complementary, simply making for a better, more efficient mix of solutions for our clients and our organizations," Mackin added.
Historically, Madden and CMG have been known for publishing national award-winning travel guides and producing award-winning print and digital media marketing campaigns, both domestically and internationally. Together, the two groups bring a wealth of expertise and partnerships. The combined organization is nearly twice the size of its nearest competitor. CMG has a long-standing relationship with, among others, the prestigious American Express group of publications, which includes the iconic Travel + Leisure magazine. Madden has an exclusive relationship with O, the Oprah magazine to represent the travel category.
Both companies have developed innovative and proprietary digital solutions for their clients, including mobile apps, iPad apps for publications, SEM, social media, and digital content distribution services.
"We have talked about merging for years, but the timing now with an improving travel economy is ripe for us to use our combined expertise to deliver programs that employ the best product mix and offerings of each organization to provide clients more powerful, more effective marketing solutions going forward," said Madden.
The combined organization will have more than 100 employees with clients in 46 states. Additional information on each company can be found at their websites www.maddenmedia.com and www.aboutcmg.com.
