Tucson HOME Magazine's First Annual Do-It-Yourself Design Awards Met with Success

Tucson HOME Magazine celebrated its inaugural DIY Design Awards with a gala event on April 27, 2006, 5:30-7:30pm. Copenhagen Imports hosted the event in their spacious showroom, where five winners received dazzling prizes donated by some of Tucson's finest retailers, to honor their creative spirit and their efforts to beautify their living environments.

"In this age of HGTV and more home and garden magazines than you can possibly read, it seemed the time had come to honor the people who did it all themselves," said Kathy McMahon, editor of Tucson HOME Magazine. "We were honored to be invited into the homes of our fellow Tucsonans, and we were awed by the feelings of love and family that emanated from the homes."

Heather and Chet Douglas were awarded the grand prize winners; additional winners include Jeanne and Thom Dwan, Joan and Bill Usry, Judy O'Toole Freel, Mirle Freel Jr., and Pat Homan and Gary Afseth.

Special thanks are in order for the distinguished local businesses that delighted winners with an uniquely elegant array of prizes.

Our sensational grand prize sponsor was Contents Interiors. Other valuable prizes were sponsored by Old Pueblo Fountains and Garden Art, Old Brazil, Magellan Trading, and Craftsman Court Ceramics.

Tucson compliments Feast on a delectable menu and Jeff Grubic and Naim Amor on a memorable musical performance. Copenhagen Imports was the perfect host, and Commotion Studios provided the PA system that carried the exciting announcements to more than 125 guests.

Anyone who missed the big night can enjoy it vicariously through the vivid pages of the magazine. A special section in the Tucson HOME Magazine Summer 2006 issue offers intimate looks into the winners' homes. This section is expected to inspire even more amazing entries for next year's competition.
